Sayani Gupta talks about Shah Rukh Khan Sidharth Malhotra and the alleged Kalki-Farhan affair
How’s life post Fan?
Even though it was an out-and-out Shah Rukh Khan film, that too two of them in it, I got compliments for my role. People have come out of the film and said my character has stayed in their mind and I’ve managed to look real. People have liked my look too.
Did you get intimidated while shooting with Shah Rukh Khan?
People you get intimidated with are the ones who want you to get intimidated by them. But he’s not like that. I used to come back from shoot grinning everyday.
We hear there were some date problems when Fan came your way?
Yes, the Fan dates were clashing with my shoot dates for Anurag Basu’s Jagga Jasoos, But Kalki (Koechlin), who’s a very dear friend, advised me to say yes to everything because eventually all of them will get pushed. It eventually worked out in my favour.
Recently there were rumours about Kalki and Farhan Akhtar… is there any truth to it?
Kalki told me that they haven’t met in two years. We were discussing and laughing about the rumours. People write any rubbish.
Were you there for her post her divorce with Anurag Kashyap?
Everyone goes through their shit in life. In fact, she and I broke up around the same time. We were there for each other. You become strong when you deal with life.
You’ve done character roles in Fan as well as your upcoming films Baar Baar Dekho and Jagga Jassos. Are you not looking at lead roles?
I’m being offered lead roles in horror and thriller genres but I can’t identify with them. Just because of these big bengali eyes maybe! Bipasha Basu could do it doesn’t mean I can. But if it’s something like Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, I’ll do it.
But who can pull off a Jack Nicholson here?
I think a Vinay Pathak or Sanjay Mishra can pull that off.
How was it working with Sidharth Malhotra in Baar Baar Dekho?
Sid is amazing and so sweet. He’s like a little boy. He’s humble and always eager to learn. He is genuinely the good boy jiska example school mein humare maa-baap diya karte the. He doesn’t smoke, drink, lie… he’s always smiling.
