October’s Cosplayer of the month

Octobers Cosplayer of the month is …

My cosplay alias is Miss Michiru but most people know me as Seraphina. I’m the creator of Otaku Bellydance and make guest appearances at conventions. On the side, I love cosplay and have been creating costumes since 2000. Recently I started a campaign, “Cosplayers for Hope”, to raise awareness for Endometriosis (an illness I’ve suffered from for over 15 years). My hope is to help young girls and women know the signs and symptoms for early detection as most are not diagnosed until 7 years after symptoms begin. Cosplay has been an incredible outlet for creativity and I still find myself learning new tips and tricks to this day! I hope to continue pursuing cosplay, whether as a cosplayer or commissioning costumes for others.

My Interview With  Miss Michiru

How long have you been Cosplaying and how did you get started?

I have been cosplaying since 2001 but commissioned my first cosplay in 2000.
I have been a fan of all types of art since childhood and viewed cosplay as another art medium. Seeing so many beautiful costumes and characters, I wanted to try!

Tell us about your first time

My first cosplay experience was doing a commission for a friend, Saffiru/Sapphire from Sailor Moon R. I had so much fun creating the costume that I decided to make Super Sailor Neptune for Halloween for myself the following year. 🙂

What is the biggest challenge when it comes to cosplay? And What do you find most enjoyable?

The greatest challenge in cosplay is allowing the naysayers no control over you and your actions.
The most enjoyable part of cosplay is building new friendships and meeting people with like interests. I have made many friends through this hobby.

Do you plan on continuing cosplaying for years to come?

As I get older, I ask myself this question all the time. What is considered “too old” to cosplay? Honestly, as long as I have the energy and capability to create costumes I plan to continue.

What is one or two characters that you want to do but haven’t yet?

For a few years I’ve wanted to make a Sakizo inspired costume but just don’t have the funds right now to do it justice. I also have yet to do ANY video game characters which will soon change. 😉

If you had to choose only one costume to wear for the rest of your life what would it be?

I honestly don’t think I could choose just one costume to wear for the rest of my life. Each costume I create has a meaning behind it and represents a time or memory in my life.

What are the genres your most interested?

Manga, Anime, Original Art, Video Games, Disney

Do you have any Tips or Ticks of the trade that you have come across in you Cosplaying Adventures?
