March’s Cosplayer Of The Month
March’s Cosplayer of the month is…
Your name and Alias
How long have you been cosplaying?
I have been cosplaying for 3 years, but I have always loved dressing up as different characters.
What inspired you to start?
Once while walking around seattle I saw a bunch of girls wearing cute costumes by the convention center. I was interested so I found out about Sakuracon and then went to it as my first convention the next year! I also made a couple of friends who were really into cosplay and they helped me get more into it and improve my cosplay more!
What was your first Cosplay experience?
My first cosplay was sailor moon, and I also did a sailor moon costume for Halloween when I was a kid (of course my mom made it for me then!) At my first convention my sailor moon cosplay was unfinished and I had no wig, but I got my first taste of cosplay and had to work on more!
What do you find a challenge with Cosplay?
The biggest challenge with cosplay is the stress level involved, especially with complex costumes. Keeping all the parts together and sturdy is difficult, and a sewing kit/super glue should always be on hand incase anything starts falling apart! Another difficulty is the cost, and having enough space in my room to keep all of my costumes!
What is the most enjoyable part of Cosplay for you?
The most enjoyable part of cosplay for me is going to the conventions and having an awesome time, participating in contests and events, and the heart warming feeling when a little kid recognizes you and wants to take pictures! so cute! I also love going through the artist alley at conventions and looking at all the cool stuff people are making.
Have you met any lasting friends because of Cosplay?
I have met a couple of friends through cosplay and I hope to make many more in the future! I wish more of the friends I made at conventions lived closer to me, but it makes seeing them at conventions special. I would love to do collabs with other cosplayers one day!
Do you plan on continuing cosplaying for years to come?
I hope so! Cosplaying may be more difficult when I am out of school and have a career, but I will try to keep it a part of my life 🙂 I am hoping to work in the video game industry so I will always be going to conventions whether I am cosplaying or working at one!
What is one or two characters that you want to do but haven’t yet?
I would love to cosplay an Elin from TERA or a character from league of legends like annie or lulu 🙂 Basically more video game characters as my focus has been on anime characters so far!
If you had to choose only one costume to wear for the rest of your life what would it be?
Probably my sailor moon cosplay! It is my most recognizable and I love sailor moon and grew up watching the show. Sailor moon is an anime staple and is also the cosplay I have worked the hardest on!
What is your favorite Convention? (FanExpo, Comicon, Anime Con….) and why?
I love Sakuracon because it is a large convention that is close to me, and I have gone a couple of times so I am familiar with where everything is and how it works, so that reduces the stress level a ton! I also like going to conventions in Canada because not only am I at a fun convention, but there is a bunch of new food and cool things to check out in the area!
What would you say to someone who knows nothing about Cosplay but is asking why you do it?
I would tell them I love dressing up as my favorite characters and going to events! Lots of people love getting ready to go to a party and dressing nice and having a fun time, it is a lot like that! The adrenaline of participating in contests in a ton of fun too!
Would you like more people in your life to get into cosplay or is it just your thing?
I think that would be really cool! Most of my friends who are into anime or video games are already into cosplay, but the more the merrier:)
Do you have plans for your next convention yet?
Sakuracon is coming up in April! 😀 I am so excited!
Do you have any tips or trick you would like to share with fellow Cosplayers?
When you go to a convention, make sure you stay super organized and do not bring too many cosplays. I always pack way too much and have a hard time finding everything. I also have a bad habit of rushing my cosplays and having to work on them at the convention xD make sure you give yourself plenty of time to finish them!
Bring lots of snacks to conventions and stay hydrated! Participate in as much as you can, I always make the most friends and have the best time when I participate in contests, games, concerts, and all the awesome stuff the convention has to offer. But make sure to take breaks and a couple naps at the hotel room so you aren’t completely dead by the last day!
And if you want to make a career out of cosplay and get many people to see your work, collaborate and share other cosplayer’s work and become part of the community as much as possible! And remember to always update your fans and keep them a big part of what you do!
Do you have anywhere online I can send people to check out your Cosplay adventures?
I have a facebook page where I update my fans and a patreon page where my supporters can get goodies!
Please list the genres your into.(Anime, Gaming, TV, Movie, Horror, Comic, Books, Manga ect.)
I mostly love anime and video games! I love fantasy and action anime the most, and anything with super cute characters! I need to invest more time in gaming but I am trying to improve my league of legends skills first ^^
Tell us an interesting story or two that has happened while your in Cosplay.
Twice at the same convention last year I had some people come up to me who recognized me from seeing my cosplay page! It was really cool and it feels surreal and awesome for people to recognize you!
Thank you Jemocha you are truly an insperation and we all look forward to seeing much more from you in the future!
Check in with us in April for another Featured Cosplayer! Cosplay on!
