Krystal’s Cosplayer Of The Month – Sptember 2016

Cosplayer Of The Month is…..

  1. What is your name and do you have an Alias?
I prefer to go by my cosplay name, Nicholi. My cosplayer name is pronounced as “Nickel-Eye”.
  1. How long have you been cosplaying?
I have been cosplaying ever since the year of 2010. When I was a child I had wanted to cosplay all sorts of characters. But it was not until 2010 that I had gotten the opportunity to do so.
  1. What was is or who inspired you to start?
After years and years of watching anime as a child. I had been inspired to cosplay alongside all the terrific cosplayers out there. After seeing that most cosplayers had awesome costumes and they expressed themselves better through the art of cosplaying, I too wanted to better express myself by doing what I love most.
  1. Tell us about your first Cosplay experience?
My first cosplay experience would have to be when I revealed my Itachi Uchiha cosplay. My costume started out as a closet cosplay and I had felt embarrassed because my costume wasn’t up to par in my eyes. I am a perfectionist and I am always trying to better my costumes. But despite the fact that my cosplay wasn’t bought at first, or the fact that I didn’t hardly look like the character at all. People were accepting of me, and they have seen how the costume has been altered and fixed. Plus the items that were bought when I was unable to make them.
  1. What is a challenge you find with Cosplay?
The most challenging thing I find with cosplay would have to be the constructing process if I make the costumes and props. I am always learning all sorts of new techniques to better the costumes and props that I make. But it is time-consuming and sometimes costumes do not get revealed at the time that I want them to be done.
  1. What is the most enjoyable part of Cosplay for you?
The most enjoyable part to cosplay for me, would have to be being with friends that share the same interests. Being able to laugh and/or joke around with friends without worry of being judged by close minded people. No matter if the costume is perfect, bought, or home-made. I always enjoy being around my friends, they always make me feel better about my cosplays.
  1. Have you met any lasting friends because of Cosplay? Describe one.
Ah! I have so many cosplay friends. But I would have to say that I met a wonderful cosplayer that enjoys cosplaying as the character Naruto. The first time I met her (I was in my Itachi Uchiha Cosplay), I had Minato’s flying thunder-god kunai. And was teasing Naruto that I had his father’s kunai. She full-out played her part right off the bat that it took me by surprise. All I could do was stand there watching and trying not to bust out laughing. But it was all in fun, as we became good close friends.
  1. Is Cosplay now a life time hobby for you?  Or say maybe Addiction?
Cosplay will always be a life time hobby for me. Sometimes it is a job in itself just to do what I do! I could say that I may be just a little addicted to cosplaying. If you ask my closest friends, They would probably laugh and say that I am completely addicted.
  1. What is one or two characters that you want to do in the future?
Character’s that I want to cosplay in the future. This one is a tough one, as there are so many characters out there. How can I choose just two?! I would have to say the two that I want to cosplay the most, and possibly will be doing in the near future would have to be Sebastian Michaelis, and Minato Namikaze.
  1. If you had to choose only one costume to wear for the rest of your life what would it be?
Hm… One costume for the rest of my life. I would have to choose my Kakashi Hatake costume. I get too much attention from it. Not that I can’t say that I don’t like that.
  1. What makes your decision on who you decide to Cosplay? EG:(Difficultly body match or do we look a like?)
I don’t decide my cosplays on looks too much. I go towards the personalities and if I could possible pull the character off. Most characters I could never dream of doing just because of how the character is. Like Naruto for example, I am not a hyperactive person. I don’t jump around a lot, that’s just to much work for me.
  1. Some People Don’t Understand why you do it. How do you answer them?
I explain to people all the time that cosplaying is not all about boobs and butts. Unlike a lot of the internet world that shows off those features more. Cosplaying is about hard work and dedication to a certain character of the person’s choosing. I cosplay because I enjoy it and it makes me feel better about myself each and every time I see a little child run up to me, or even adults that come up to me and compliment me on how well my costumes are made/put together.
  1. Who do you hope to inspire?
I hope to inspire the cosplayers that do not get to be in the spotlight very often if at all. I also am against “cosplay bullying”, and I also inforce “cosplay is not consent”. I give everyone around me plenty of chances to prove themselves. And I also help other cosplayers when they need help with their costumes.
  1. Do you have plans for your next convention yet?
My plans for the next convention. Well… I am hoping to attend three conventions this year. And I will probably only be doing my Kakashi Hatake cosplay if I can’t finish the cosplays I am working on currently.
  1. What are some insider tips or tricks you would like to share with fellow Cosplayers?
My biggest tip to my fellow cosplayers. Ignore the haters and bullies. I know this is the hardest thing to do among cosplayers that wear their emotions on their sleeves. But it will be better in the long run. Enjoy what you do, find cosplayers that you enjoy being around and make new friends at each convention you go to. Push yourself (not to hard, don’t go past your limits). And all in all… Just have fun!
  1. Can you explain how you feel in your Costume?
I feel like a completely different person while I am in any of my costumes. I have been told plenty of times by friends that I act and seem like a completely different person. I guess I aSubmission1m at times, since I can be whoever I want to be.
  1. What other fun things are you into?
Other things I enjoy doing. I would have to say I enjoy playing video games, going to the movies with friends, cooking is a passion for me and sort of hobby, and making crafts. I also have currently started doing commissions for props like wands, tails, keychains, and necklaces.
  1. Have you had any funny or interesting stories from cosplaying?.
I would have to say this one time when me and my friends decided to go and do Cosplay Bowling. We had a blast and stayed out way later than we had intended on doing. I would have to tell everyone they need to try this at least once in their life! Even the staff had fun watching us.
  1. Now that you have experience, what can you say to first timers that are nervous about loosing their Cosplay virginity?
I would tell them, Just do it. Go out there. It’s not as scary as it seems. I know my first time, I was terrified. But being in cosplay makes it so you can be a different person than you normally are. Go out there, jump around. Make some wonderful friends!
  1. Where can we look to find more of your Cosplaying?
You can find more of my cosplay’s on my Facebook Cosplay Page.
