Krystal’s Cosplayer of the Month – March 2017

Cosplayer of the Month is ….

Jadie Lane

1. What is your name and do you have an Alias?
I just go by Jadie, Jadie Lane is my full alias.

2. How long have you been cosplaying?
I have been cosplaying, in total, for a full year.

3. What was is or who inspired you to start?
There are so many talented cosplayers out there. Sarah Leeann, Chris Villain, and Gothic Sushi are probably my top three. Their personality, sexiness, and just straight talent has me pushing myself to do a little better each cosplay.
4. Tell us about your first Cosplay experience?
Oh man. My first experience was at Wizard World Richmond. I wore a Viva Wonder Woman costume and as soon as I walked it it was like I found my people. The Con community was so supportive and excited, which made me even more excited. I was absolutely beside myself.

5. What is a challenge you find with Cosplay?
Time. Hands down time is my biggest challenge. Sadly cosplay doesn’t pay the bills. So between work, practices, and family time I sometimes have to make myself go get things done.
6. What is the most enjoyable part of Cosplay for you?
The community. There are some grumps out there who like to tear people down but I’ve found that 9/10 people are just excited to share something so awesome.

7. Have you met any lasting friends because of Cosplay? Describe one.
I have met several friends through cosplay. I met my friend Nellie at WWR. We started talking and it turned out we had really close mutual friends but had never met. Needless to say the rest was history!

8. Is Cosplay now a life time hobby for you? Or say maybe Addiction?
Cosplay will be a forever hobby. It has become all consuming. There isn’t a time where I can just watch a movie or show without thinking, “dang, that would make a good cosplay.” And walking into any craft store is a dangerous, dangerous game.

9. What is one or two characters that you want to do in the future?
I have a list of about 100 characters that I would love to do at some point. My top three for 2017 is my Dragon Age character Winrey, Scarlet Witch, and Sailor Jupiter

10. If you had to choose only one costume to wear for the rest of your life what would it be?
Wonder Woman. There is no competition here.

11. What makes your decision on who you decide to Cosplay? EG:(Difficultly body match or do we look a like?)
This is such a hard question to answer. I start with characters I have some sort of connection to or see a little bit of myself in. (Or would like to think I do) Then I look at costume difficulty. I’m still a new cosplayer/seamstress so I want to make sure that I can do the character justice while staying in my sill level.

12. Some People Don’t Understand why you do it. How do you answer them?
Its like Halloween all year round. Who doesn’t love Halloween?

13. Who do you hope to inspire?
I want to inspire all the people who feel as though they don’t fit in, the people who think as though their interests are weird or shameful. There is so much love to be had in this community.

14. Do you have plans for your next convention yet?
I don’t have any confirmed cons but Triad Anime Convention is coming up!

15. What are some insider tips or tricks you would like to share with fellow Cosplayers?
Double sided tape can be used for almost anything. If you can add pockets, add pockets. Inside, outside doesn’t matter add a pocket. Eat before you con.

16. Can you explain how you feel in your Costume?
Double sided tape can be used for almost anything. If you can add pockets, add pockets. Inside, outside doesn’t matter add a pocket. Eat before you con.

17. What other fun things are you into?
I play roller derby! Its fun because derby has a little cosplay aspect to it too. When you get on the track you take on another persona, much like cosplay.

18. Have you had any funny or interesting stories from cosplaying?.
My favorite story is when a two or three year old girl, who was dressed as Wonder Woman, got so excited when seeing me she ran over and gave me the biggest hug. She was so struck she didn’t want to let go. That’s when I knew I wanted to make cosplaying a bigger part in my life.

19. Now that you have experience, what can you say to first timers that are nervous about loosing their Cosplay virginity?
Its okay to be a beginner. Its okay not to come out looking like Yaya Han or Jessica Nigri. Your cosplay is just as awesome and just as valid and just as appreciated.

20. Where can we look to find more of your Cosplaying?
You can find me on Facebook under www.facebook.com/jadielanecosplay Jadie Lane Cosplay, Instagram instagram@JadieLane, and Snapchat jade_lane.

Thank you so much Jadie, we look forward to seeing more from you in the future.

Check back with us next month for another extraordinary Cosplayer.
