June’s Cosplayer of The Month

June’s Cosplayer of the Month is…

Chelsea Rose

What is your name and do you have an Alias?

Chelsea Rose and people in the cosplay community know me as Chelsea Nee-Chan because I’m everybody’s big sister!

How long have you been cosplaying?

I attended my first convention in 2008 in cosplay as Mew Ichigo from Tokyo Mew Mew!

What was it or who inspired you to start?

I had always loved looking at costumes online and browsing cosplay pages. My grandmother is an excellent sewer and I asked her to teach me everything she knew about making clothing and crafts. She has been my teacher and inspiration for the longest time.

Tell us about your first Cosplay experience?

I was extremely proud of my first cosplay! Mew Ichigo from Tokyo Mew Mew! It was pink. It was poofy. It was a magical girl! A perfect first cosplay! It was so much fun and I’ve been hooked ever since!

What do you find a challenge with Cosplay?

Finding enough time and funds!

What is the most enjoyable part of Cosplay for you?

Showing off the finished product! Proudly displaying my work and letting others enjoy it with me.

Have you met any lasting friends because of Cosplay?

YES! Two of my best friends I met through cosplay groups and conventions!

Do you plan on continuing cosplaying for years to come?

Absolutely! I even started dressing up my son! He won his first cosplay contest at 1 years old as baby Gohan from DBZ! I’ll be cosplaying with him in the future for sure.

What is one or two characters that you want to do but haven’t yet?

I would really like to do Irelia from League of Legends and an outfit from Love Live! School Idol!

If you had to choose only one costume to wear for the rest of your life what would it be?

Oh gosh…Better pick something comfortable! I wore a basketball jersey for Kuroko No Basuke and it was so laid back! I’d pick that one.

What is your favorite Convention? (FanExpo, Comicon, Anime Con….) and why?

Anime Milwaukee because it’s my hometown convention and is very intimate. I also love Anime Central in Chicago because it was my very first con and I attend every year!

What would you say to  someone that knows nothing about Cosplay but is asking why you do it?

Why do you sing or dance? Why do you paint or play baseball? Because you love to do it and enjoy it right? Well that is why I cosplay! Instead of a ball and bat I use needle and thread!

Would you like  if more friends or family would join you in your love of cosplay?

YES! There could be so many fun group opportunities we could cosplay!

Do you have plans for your next convention yet?

Of course! I will be attending C2E2 in Chicago on April 24th– 26th. I’ll be doing my own version of “Mr. Rabbit” from Alice in Wonderland and my partner will be Alice. After C2E2 I’ll be attending Anime Central in Chicago May 15th-17th but I haven’t decided my line up yet!

Do you have any tips or trick you would like to share with fellow Cosplayers?

Don’t let anybody tell you that you cant cosplay a certain character. If you are a different gender, race, height, weight – it doesn’t matter! You go for that cosplay! Don’t let other people put down your ideas, if you love that character you cosplay it!

Do you have anywhere online I can send people to check out your Cosplay adventures?

I’m revamping my cosplay pages at the moment so I only have my personal facebook up right now. I do suggest taking a look at my favorite photographer SGPicz! She is on facebook, Instagram, and DeviantArt.

Please list the genres your into.(Anime, Gaming, TV, Movie, Horror, Comic, Books, Manga ect.)

Japanese Animation, Videogames, Manga, Comic books, Kpop/Jpop, Korean Dramas

Tell us one or two interesting stories of you in cosplay.

I love running into cosplayers from the same series as you! There was a time I was cosplaying Luffy from One Piece and I spotted a Bon Clay from One Piece waaaaay down this hallway. He just happened to glimpse at me and shout “MUGI-CHAAAAAAN!” I responded back with “BON CLAY SAMAAAA!” We both then proceeded to slow motion run towards each other for the next 20FT! It was epic and everybody around us was so amused! We collided in a huge glomp in the end!

Thank you Chelsea for taking the time out to share with us your fantastic adventures. We hope to see much more amazing Cosplay from you in the future.

Check us out next month for another amazing Cosplayer`s story.
