Conventionmeet gets better all the time

Many of the large and nearly all of the small conventions lack any tools to help you navigate the convention and your time there.  In comes Adrian Perez and his site Perez has listened to convention attendees and created a website that gives us the functionality of Facebook with a dedication towards those fanboys and girls who need something more comprehensive than Facebook for their event needs.

We looked at Conventionmeet several times this past year as it went through alpha and beta testing. The site continues to grow and become more and more useful. My most recent exploration of the site proved that the many glitches observed earlier in the year, have been dealt with. The site is running smoothly and has much to offer to the fanboy or fangirl heading off to their favorite convention. What the site needs now is YOU. In order for the site to get linked into every convention in the nation, we need people like you to sign up and try it out. We then need you to tell your convention producers that they can use this format to setup events, advertise, and even connect with the fans who make conventions possible. As a convention goer I often wish that there was a site or app that would allow me to connect with friends and set up events. Some conventions like GenCon or ComicCon actually create apps for their events but what about all of the other conventions that gamers and sci-fi fans attend? This site solves the age old problem that we have been dealing with for years. Facebook just doesn’t cut it. Sure it gives us some of the tools we want but then we get stuck with all of the non-fans who are friends getting hit with con stuff and not really being happy about it. Conventionmeet is just for the fans. So you know when you post and event, that only the fans will get it and only the fans will interact with it. This eliminates many of the Facebook trolls that can ruin your day.

ConventionMeet is free and easy to use. I have explored the site pretty extensively and it has alot to offer. Comparing it to Facebook, ConventionMeet offers alot of tools that I have always desired with Facebook but were lacking.

A badge system for earning rep amongst your friend for being active on the site.
A simple system for blogging with the ability to import from your various blogging accounts
A credit system for active users where you can earn points that will be able to be redeemed for merchandise in the future. Right now it can be used to get virtual items but who knows what goodies will be available as the site grows.
A basic Podcast setup is also available. Who knows how that will grow as time moves on.
