August’s Cosplayer Of The Month

It’s time again to meet another cosplayer. This month we meet Josh Phelps. He is a cosplayer out of Arkansas and member of a cosplay group called cobra which is short for cosplayers organizing building and rising in Arkansas.
Josh is in the air force and has always loved anything superhero or anime related. Here is our interview!

Josh Phelps

What is your name and do you have an Alias?
Josh Phelps aka Vigilante Cosplay
How long have you been cosplaying?
Almost 4 years now
What was is or who inspired you to start?
Just being a long time fan of comics and anime along with moving to somewhere that actually holds cons sparked the blaze.
Tell us about your first Cosplay experience?
Being completely overwhelmed at Wizard World Tulsa, I didn’t really know what to expect but it was the best time ever.
What do you find a challenge with Cosplay?
Mostly sewing and trying to find interesting characters to portray.
What is the most enjoyable part of Cosplay for you?
Showing off my hard work and just being with people that all love and admire the same stuff I do.
Have you met any lasting friends because of Cosplay?
A few so far and hopefully more to  come.
Do you plan on continuing cosplaying for years to come?
Yes, I don’t see myself stopping any time soon.
What is one or two characters that you want to do but haven’t yet?
The silver beetleborg from the 90’s Beetleborgs and metamorpho from DC comics.
If you had to choose only one costume to wear for the rest of your life what would it be?
Probably my black Adam, it’s empowering and not as hot and sweat inducing as my others lol.
What is your favorite Convention? (FanExpo, Comicon, Anime Con….) and why?
Probably Wizard World, you can catch it in multiple states and have plenty of guests and vendors.
What would you say to  someone that knows nothing about Cosplay but is asking why you do it?
To bring my favorite characters to life and wear their shoes for a day.
Would you like  if more friends or family would join you in your love of cosplay?
To each their own but I would enjoy an added common interest.
Do you have plans for your next convention yet?
Anime blues con is in two weeks in Memphis.
Do you have any tips or trick you would like to share with fellow Cosplayers?
There is nothing that you can’t find on youtube, my biggest go-to.
Do you have anywhere online I can send people to check out your Cosplay adventures?
My fb is and instagram @vigilante_cosplay
So what genres are you into?.(Anime, Gaming, TV, Movie, Horror, Comic, Books, Manga ect.)
All of the above!
Has any interesting stories happened to you in cosplay?
The best is always going to public places outside of the con while still in costume or having my eyes blacked out still but being in normal clothes, the looks people give you are crazy.
Thank you Josh!
